Match number: 1539The 'A' team can regard this as three points lost as they squandered a hatful of chances in a profligate first half. Their reward was only one goal, on 39 minutes, a good finish by Ed Mitchinson from a Kevin Barrow pass, but before then debutant Mark Robertson and Tim Buzaglo had had shots blocked on the line and Robertson spooned one over from within the six yard box.
An excellent first twenty-three minutes was disrupted by the loss of Steve Brooks to injury causing the five in midfield to be changed to a 4-4-2 formation. This altered Weysiders' shape, which ultimately aided their downfall. The game should really have been all over by the break, but incredibly Staines drew level in first half stoppage time when a blatantly offside goal was allowed to stand, with only the referee and the linesman failing to spot the last touch by a Staines player to his offside colleague who scored. But that injustice really should not have mattered as Weysiders should have had the game won by then.
Instead, after the break Staines came out stronger and scored a scrambled goal from a corner after 51 minutes and scored again five minutes later to take a flattering 3-1 lead. They hit the bar later, but Weysiders also hid the goal-frame twice but failed to make a further impression on the score until five minutes from the end when Matt Hockin robbed the Lammas defence to set Tim Buzaglo away to score with five minutes left, but it was too late.
By the way, with Ben Crockford debuting in goal, that is now four keepers in four games: are the 'A' team going for some sort of record?
